About Our Farm

Wildfruit is a family farm in Sison, Pangasinan, at the Southwestern foothills of Benguet's Cordillera Mountains. The area is uniquely suited to fruit orchards because of its distinct dry season. Most orchards in the Philippines suffer from being too wet, which leads to problems with fungus.

Farm owner, Mark, carefully studies and sources rare fruit varieties from around the world–and sometimes, the local forest–that are superior to conventional varieties found in local markets and groceries. We currently grow 12 (and counting!) different varieties of Atis/Sugar Apple, Mango, Sampaloc/Tamarind and Avocado which we sell direct to customers in Metro Manila.

Mark's focus on quality extends to our farming methods:

  • We keep our trees small (<12ft), which allows us to manually pollinate flowers, bag fruit individually and harvest easily. This minimizes if not eliminates the need for insecticides on the fruit.
  • We only harvest fruit when it is mature. Our short trees allow great selectivity during harvest season. We never pull fruit. We cut the stem inches away from the fruit to avoid sap damage.
  • We plant vastly more trees per hectare (200-600) and have a microsprinkler irrigation system. This enables us to use just the the right amount of water and promotes healthy, spread-out root growth (as opposed to conventional drip irrigation that causes roots to ball up under the tree)
  • Clonal propagation ensures every tree produces the exact same kind of fruit! We're obsessive about making sure all our customers get consistently delicious fruit.

We are passionate about modern and intensive farming techniques and encourage our local workers to share and transfer this knowledge to their peers. Got questions or simply want to geek out with us? We'd love to hear from you — wildfruitph@gmail.com
